Biography: Jay A. Conger is executive director of the Leadership Institute and professor of management at the University of Southern California. One of the world's experts on leadership, he was chosen by
Business Week as the pick of American professors to teach leadership to executives. Author of over sixty articles and eight books, he researches leadership, boards of directors, the management of organizational change, and the training and development of leaders and managers. His articles have appeared in the

Academy of Management Review, and
Journal of Organizational Behavior. He is currently associate editor of
Leadership Quarterly. One of his books,

In addition, he has been involved in executive education at INSEAD, a European business school located in France. He received his B.A. from Dartmouth College, his M.B.A. from the University of Virginia, and his D.B.A. from the Harvard Business School. Prior to his academic career, he worked in government and as an international marketing manager for a high-technology company.
Beth A. Benjamin is an associate with Booz-Allen & Hamilton's Strategic Leadership Practice, which focuses on serving senior management in the areas of organization, leadership, transformation, and corporate renewal. As a member of the SLP, Benjamin specializes in the implementation of large-scale change, organizational structure and redesign, strategic human resource management, and leadership development. Prior to joining Booz-Allen, she held joint appointments at the University of Southern California's Leadership Institute and RAND. During that time, she performed a wide variety of work on implementing change in traditionally bureaucratic institutions in the military, federal court system, health care industry, and large private-sector firms. She holds a Ph.D. in business (organizational behavior) from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, an M.A. in industrial organizational psychology from the University of Maryland, and a B.A. from Cornell University.
